There are days where I'd prefer it if I had panic attacks, if it meant that it would be peace and quiet between them (of course, I'm saying this not having the experience of panic attacks; if I had, I might prefer my situation); my personal anxiety is more diffused, but high every day, even if it's not as high a level as an anxiety attack. It feeds on anything and everything is a pretext for anxiety. Every noon, there is the post I must check, as for an exemple. Surely bad news, a death even. I must take bromazepam before opening the letterbox. There is paperwork, surely I will fill it wrong, and there will be problems. There is going out of the house, which as a result has me generally only going out for grocery shopping and singing lessons (I do it the same day, as having to go out for groceries motivate me for going to the Conservatoire); this vicious feeling can even hide in my pleasures. I'm very fond of the show "Tu mourras moins bête" but they always end with "you'll die a little smarter, but you'll die anyway", which makes me thing of my family memebers' departure. My anxiety doesn't have peaks, but it is nagging. The hardest part is the comments : "you think too much, it's all in your head", even uttered by my parents who should know better.
To fight this ever nagging anxiety, I have developped rituals : if I see a magpie, it's a good omen, if I switch the light switches so, if I knit for 30 minutes, if I make a toast with the coffee cups...even my bodily fluids are omens, and it's like that all day long, everything is a pretext for analyze to try to reassure myself. When I still saw a worthwhile psych, he said it was a good way to evacuate anxiety, as long as it didn't become a chore. And it is, now. For there has been an evolution : if I don't see a magpie, if I forget the light switch, it is a sure bad omen. Worse, it robbed me of my pleasure, as I do my mandatory 30 minutes knitting.

I miss therapy. I went from a dispensary where I got weekly care to an overbooked dispensary where I am seen 10 minutes every two months.

Where I get cultured - Où je deviens cultivée

Nothing new in my life, except the fact I started to search again for a job. I just wanted to write about an amazing initiative : opera, ballet and theatre at the cinema. In France, it's in Gaumont theaters but there are projections worldwide. During the winter season they show captations of the Metropolitan Opera, of the Bolshoi and the Comédie Française (I think this one is France-specific). The season started this October, so far I've seen Tristan and Isolde for the opera, Romeo and Juliette for the theater and the Golden Age for ballet. And tomorrow I'm going to see Don Giovanni :)
Tickets are expensive, but over here if you have a cinema pass card they are included, so it may be worthwhile to check with your local theater. Company name of the events is Pathé Live, but I can't link because the site is regionalised. One thing that is important to know is that it's better buying tickets early, as they are quickly sold out.

It's good for me because it makes me go out of the house, otherwise I only go out for my singing classes and my appointments with the psych. But even if I want to go, I know that tomorrow it will be torture and anxiety in order to decide to actually go. After the fact I know I will be happy to have gone, but before...brrrr...

Big Crocheted Sweater of Doom - le Pull en Crochet de la Mort qui Tue

Inspiré de ce Deviantart.

Inspired by this Deviantart.

I have been dreaming of this sweater since 2014...but I didn't imagine it like that; I started with knitting but I frogged it all and restarted with crochet. But then I suffered a lack of mojo; I forced myself to work on it at least 15 minutes a day. It lasted for months. I have this kind of magical thinking : if I crochet or knit for 15 minutes, I'm protected during the next day. So I force myself, even when it makes me profundly unhappy.
But here it is, all finished. I'll do it again with knitting when my mojo comes back. But for now I have two titillating projects : a sweater that's inspired by the one worn by Ginny in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and another that's inspired by a dress I saw on tv last saturday.

End of an era - La fin d'une ère

Since April of 2015 I was working in a facility for people with mental health disabilities; but I progressively got more and more suicidal. I fantasized on different ways of killing or harming myself. I had to go on sick leave since November of 2015 because the weight of it all was too heavy; during the last weeks, it got worse, I was stashing medication to take it all if I ever had to come back; this time, it was sure I would have taken the plunge. It made me very affraid, so with the rest of sanity I had I decided to resign; resignation letter got in the post this morning. It's both a weight I am relieved of and more anxiety about my future; ideally, I will start to brush up my German by correspondance then attempt to get into a technical translation master, as my chemistry and biology background would be an asset. But what if if I fuck up?

TO complicate things, my psych has retired. He might open a private practice and I surely hope he does. My new psych at the mental health dispensary is very so-so : two questions, renewal of my prescription, wham bam thank you madam, see you in two months.

May was bad. THE only thing that made it tolerable was crochet. Crochet benefits on mental health are not enough known. It's Kathryn Vercillo's main focus.  Please go read her blog.

First, the cardi inspired by Luna Lovegood. Too large, bleh, but I don't have the courage to redo it. May have the fortitude to frog it later, though.

And then a top that's inspired by Nick Cave's ballad Where the wild roses grow. I wanted roses everywhere but finally there is just one on the sleeve, with three pendant leaves. The top looks better when worn than laying flat; I will try to take pics on sunday.

Stuff I'm not happy to experience again - Je m'en serais bien passée

During my sick leave, I have been upped to a total of 150 drops of Haldol a day, plus one entire bar of Bromazepam, plus 2 quarts of a bar if I expérience distress? I'm better but I can't stay awake most of the day. And I've experienced the resurgence of old symptoms, like restless legs, the inability to sit still without moving continuously my legs. Sometimes my limbs become weak and my hands shake. I've got phases where my eyes can't focus, too. All of this is not continuous, thank Bob, or I'd get mad. I wonder how I will manage at the ESAT.

I've got a new obsession too (I had it before, but not that strong) : I must crochet or knit for at least 15 minutes in order to have a peaceful, lucky following day. I've got a whole schedule on my phone with all the 15 minutes I did before, and the days where I am already protected. But it has morphed something I loved to do into a chore. I started a C/KAL on Harry Potter where I'm crocheting a cardi that's inspired by Luna Lovegood :

(The front. Le devant)

(The back, upside down, where I decide to add a diamond - Le derrière, avec son losange que j'ai rajouté)

As you can see, there is a lot of divergence from the original cardi. It's in purpose, I didn't want to reach cosplay-like exactitude. Sleeves are shorter, but I can add length if needed. They also have just one triangle instead of two. And I changed the two triangles at the side of the waist into my diamond on the back. There will be only one button, at the neckline. It's not even finished but I already find it hideous, so it's tagged "ugly as hell"

I love Clara Parkes, I figuratively inhaled  her Knitter's Book of Yarn. I equally loved her biography, the Yarn Whisperer, where she uses knitting as a metaphor for life. I thought it was brilliant.
She's coming back with Knitlandia, where she relates her woolly peregrinations around the world. I'm still at the beginning but I won't lie, I jumped to the Paris chapter. It seems she had a better experience there at l'Oisive Thé than my knitting buddies. But you know the saying, it's easier to remember bad comments over good ones. One day I'll gather my courage and check for myself.

just a pair of mitts?

There is more than meet the eye. I was having administrating problems. Crocheted these mitts made me calm down by focusing on every stitch. Crochet really is a help when you're anxious. And when they were finished I was able to wear them to comfort myself.

The same with this bolero. I don't remember if I posted about it.

I carried this button in my money purse for years till I found the perfect project for it :

What a loss - Quelle perte

This is a big big loss, but a positive one. Six years ago, I gained 40kg after an hospitalisation; I tried to lose them for two years, with a diet and aquagym in a clinic that's specialised in obesity problems. No result whatsoever; I think my medication was the culprit. So I gave up, with this new goal of simply not gaining instead of losing weight.
Fast forward to now. I knew I had lost some weight, everybody told me, and I knew, due to my last sweater knitting, that I had lost 7cm at the waist and 10cm at the hips. On wednesday, even my psych told me I lost weight. So on thursday I did a thing I never did, because it used to trigger food compulsions in me : I weighed myself. I thought I had lost maybe 6 or 7 kg. I actually shed 28kg and am now under the red line of three digit weights.

I am happy but I'll have to redo my wardrobe. I also have this diffuse fear of having caught my finger in a big machinery. I surprised myself by watching thinspo memes, reducing my portions, even skipping meals and drinking a lot to fill me up. I'm affraid I might start the reverse excess behaviour. I'm all the more affraid that EDNOS in fatties is rarely thought as problematic by most doctors. For most of them, if it gets an obese person to lose weight, it's OK, even if it's due to disordered earting. I am lucky that I'm aware of the risk, but it's hard, going against compulsions. I hope I will get over it quickly.

Up and down - ça va ça vient

There are moments where I'm OK, and luckily they are more and more present, but I have my dark moments too, as last note can attest. In particular, I live at night because the days are making me anxious. I still have crochet to fill up my mind, though. So here is a little silk choker for my singing teacher.

English only

English only, as I don't want my parents to worry. I just googled "Haldol lethal dose" and was directed to a site that is all about suicide. That's when I realised I don't want to die, I just want to make a call for help if I'm made to go back to the ESAT on thursday. I know I'm extremely lucky that such facilities exist, and not far from my home, but I can't stand the permanent anxiety. I have been living at night during my whole month of sick leave, as if I was awake during the day I was obsessing about what I'd be doing if I were at the ESAT, then obsessing about my stash of medication or the kitchen knives. Up till now, the fact that what I want is serious help, not death, contained me. But still, I bookmarked that site. What prevents me from acting on my fantasies more than anything else is the fact that I don't want to go to the hospital.
